Background information on this blog

The idea of this blog is to feature creations and ideas aiming beyond the Lego cities of today. The “City” or “Town” subject – which is the original LEGO® theme in fact – has become much more interesting and challenging when TLG started their modular buildings theme in 2007. Everything was much better than before: The houses were much bigger, completely new parts, great colour combinations and new building techniques were used. AFOLs started to build large town setups with those amazing buildings, adding their own creations to them.
But there is more at hand. Especially when regarding the booming Technic theme there are abundant possibilities to combine the different subjects. As an example, some car builders started to motorize even small city vehicles with PowerFunctions gear. Plus there are lifts, street lighting or electrified revolving doors. But also when looking into the past there are a lot of things that enrich our cities: the fantastic Light & Sound stuff or – last not least – the monorail which literally adds a third dimension to the city traffic, switching between a tramway, an overhead railway and a subway. Trains are very important, too – not so much in terms of great train layouts (which are a nice thing anyway) but in terms of integration into a town layout which is a challenging aspect.
Besides all that we’re of course interested in town stuff as such, so that great modular buildings or classic town layouts will be seen here, too. And all kinds of vehicles for sure, which we think are a little underrated in terms of town building. Cars and trucks are – even if not propelled by PowerFunctions or by an LCS – always a dynamic element in a town layout.
Another important idea of this blog is to merge the abundant town or city stuff published on different LEGO fan sites and to promote the exchange of knowledge between them. It’s difficult to get an overview about what’s going on on sites like MOCpages, Flickr, Eurobricks or Brickshelf all of the time. A blog like this may help to discover parallels that otherwise wouldn’t be noticed.
Lego cities will always be an important subject, even among AFOLs – no other Lego theme involves so many people and motivates them to combine their creative output in large Lego layouts.

Hinter diesem Blog steckt die Idee, dass das klassische Lego-Thema “Town” bzw. “City”, mit dem alles begann, zu Unrecht als “langweilig” oder “Kinderkram” verschrien ist. Spätestens seit Einführung der Modular-Gebäude gelten auch in diesem Bereich viel höhere Ansprüche an Gestaltung und Bautechniken. Gerade die Modulargebäude haben eine wahre Flut an Eigenentwürfen ausgelöst, um Lego-Städte zu vergrößern, zu individualisieren und noch interessanter zu machen.
Die Möglichkeiten sind damit aber noch lange nicht erschöpft. Der Blick über den Tellerrand auf andere Themengebiete – insbesondere den stark im Aufwind befindlichen Technic-Bereich – erlaubt völlig neue Konzepte, die die Lego-Städte der Zukunft lebendig werden lassen, genannt seien Aufzüge, U- und Hochbahnen (per Monorail- oder Bahntrasse), Straßen- und Innenbeleuchtung und nicht zuletzt fahrende Autos – ein Thema, das wir mit unserem LCS propagieren. Auch das Thema Eisenbahn ist in diesem Zusammenhang zentral, sofern es um deren tatsächliche Einbindung in ein Stadt-Layout geht.
Solchen neuen Konzepten einer Lego-Stadt, die sich mehr in Richtung Modellbau bewegen, widmet sich dieser Blog. Wir sind also an allem interessiert, was im Sinne dieses Programms eine Bereicherung von LEGO®-Städten darstellt. Ein prächtiges Modulargebäude wird hier sicher auch Berücksichtigung finden, sofern es sich vom Mainstream abhebt. Ansonsten aber sind wir an allem interessiert, was sich bewegt, leuchtet, blinkt und hupt und auch sonst für Action in der Stadt sorgt.
Die Stadt wird – trotz aller willkommenen Zuwächse in den anderen Bereichen – immer ein zentrales Lego-Thema bleiben, auch unter AFOLs. Denn sie ist wie kein zweites LEGO®-Thema geeignet, Menschen zusammenzubringen und zu Gemeinschaftsprojekten zu bewegen.

How to get blogged on BW
It is quite easy to get blogged on BW. If you have built a nice town scale car with two minifigs side by side in it or a stylish modular building with a special aspect and some nice techniques or a flying Lego plane, you are most likely to get blogged here.
What we like:
- MOCs made of 100 percent Lego.
- MOCs with a style.
- MOCs with interacting minifigs in or around them.
- MOCs with a technical aspect.
- Art Deco, Googie Style, International Style Architecture.
- Glamourous Lego.
- Vehicles fitting minifigs.
- New ideas within town layouts.
- Good photography.
- Rendered LDD designs.
What we don’t like:
- Any military stuff.
- MOCs with third party parts or modified parts.
- Over the top MOCs that don’t fit in any surrounding.
- Mainstream modulars.
- Over the top photography.
- Bad photography.
- Unrendered LDD designs.
If you think one of your MOCs fits in just drop us a line and we’ll blog it if that’s the case, even if it’s an older MOC.
